Tafsir
The Quran now addresses the Children of Israel directly: O Children of Israel, remember My favor which I bestowed upon you and fulfill My covenant upon you — I will fulfill your covenant, and be afraid of only Me. explains that the covenant here refers to the series of covenants Allah made with the prophets of Bani Israel — to follow the final messenger when he came — and the response He asks for is remembrance (dhikr) and fulfillment. The instructionbe afraid of only Me(wa iyyaya farhibun) is a liberation: the one who fears Allah alone is freed from every other fear. The deepest form of spiritual independence is the exclusive orientation of ones awe toward the Divine.
