وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَا تُفْسِدُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُصْلِحُونَ
“And when it is said to them, Do not make mischief in the land, they say: We are but peace-makers.”

When the hypocrites are told not to spread corruption in the earth, they respond with the most revealing of answers: We are only reformers. This is the signature of every kind of corruption that presents itself as virtue — the claim to be correcting the world while actually harming it. emphasizes that corruption (fasad) is not merely immoral behavior but any action that disrupts the divinely intended order of things: truthful faith, righteous community, and just governance. The hypocrite who undermines believers from within while professing loyalty is the archetype of this corruption.
