وَلِيَعْلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ نَافَقُوا۟ ۚ وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْا۟ قَـٰتِلُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أَوِ ٱدْفَعُوا۟ ۖ قَالُوا۟ لَوْ نَعْلَمُ قِتَالًا لَّٱتَّبَعْنَـٰكُمْ ۗ هُمْ لِلْكُفْرِ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَقْرَبُ مِنْهُمْ لِلْإِيمَـٰنِ ۚ يَقُولُونَ بِأَفْوَٰهِهِم مَّا لَيْسَ فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَكْتُمُونَ
“And that He might know the hypocrites; and it was said to them: Come, fight in Allah's way, or defend yourselves. They said: If we knew fighting, we would certainly have followed you. They were on that day much nearer to unbelief than to belief. They say with their mouths what is not in their hearts, and Allah best knows what they conceal.”

و تا معلوم کند حالِ آنان که نفاق و دورویی کردند و (چون) به آنها گفته شد بیایید در راه خدا جهاد و یا دفاع کنید (عذر آوردند و) گفتند که اگر ما به فنون جنگی دانا بودیم از شما تبعیت نموده و به کارزار میآمدیم. اینان به کفر نزدیکترند تا به ایمان؛ به زبان چیزی اظهار کنند که در دل خلاف آن پنهان داشتهاند، و خدا بر آنچه پنهان میدارند آگاهتر از خود آنهاست.

When the hypocrites were asked to fight for the cause of God or to defend the city, they replied, "Had we known before that you would fight, we would certainly not have followed you." At that time they were closer to disbelief than to faith. They speak words that do not come from their hearts. God knows well whatever they try to hide.

اور منافقین کو بھی دیکھنا چاہتا تھا .ان منافقین سے کہا گیا کہ آؤ راسِ خدا میں جہاد کرو یا اپنے نفس سے دفاع کرو تو انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم کو معلوم ہوتا کہ واقعی جنگ ہوگی تو تمہارے ساتھ ضرور آتے.. یہ ایمان کی نسبت کفر سے زیادہ قریب تر ہیں اور زبان سے وہ کہتے ہیں جو دل میں نہیں ہوتا اور اللہ ان کے پوشیدہ امور سے باخبر ہے
