Children of Israel, recall My favors to you and the preference that I gave to you over all nations.

Tafsir
Allah addresses the Children of Israel again: O Children of Israel, remember My favor which I bestowed upon you and that I preferred you over the worlds. The repetition of this reminder — which appeared earlier in verse 2:40 — is deliberate: it frames both the responsibilities and the warnings that come between them. notes that divine preference (tafdhil) is always purposive: the Children of Israel were given prophets, scripture, and liberation from Pharaoh not as ethnic privilege but as a trust to uphold. When any nation or people is given divine favor, the measure of that favor is the standard by which their choices will be judged. Blessing and accountability always come together in the Quran.
