Tafsir
Indeed, We have given you, [O Muhammad], al-Kawthar. Al-Kawthar is one of the most debated words in the Quran in terms of its referent. It means abundant good — and narrations identify it as a river in paradise of incomparable beauty and sweetness. But its meaning is broader: the Prophet was given al-Kawthar in the form of the Quran, prophethood, intercession, and — most significantly for the Shia understanding — his progeny through Fatima al-Zahra. The one who cut the Prophets lineage was Abu Jahl and those like him. But the Prophets progeny through Fatima al-Zahra continued and continues to this day through the Imams, the true al-Kawthar.

Sadiq said: Al-Kawthar is the river in paradise that Allah gave to His Prophet. And it is also the intercession. And it is also the progeny of the Prophet — for those who hate us hate the Prophet, and those who hate the Prophet have indeed hated Allah Himself.
